The singer feels he has the strength to face Donald Trump.

It is well and truly over the Lonely era! Already committed to many causes, notably humanitarian, Akon has decided to go further and declared its ambitions for the US presidential elections in 2020.

Akon on his way to the White House!

At the annual One Young World summit, which brings together young leaders from nearly 200 countries and leaders, the 45-year-old star made a surprise announcement. On Friday, October 19, in The Hague, the Netherlands, Akon said: "I know this may sound crazy, but you motivated me to run for President of the United States! (...) Just remember that when that day comes and I am elected, I will let everyone know that it all started right here at One Young World. So start the pre-campaign for me now!".

After that speech, the rapper confirmed to News Week that he really considered the idea of running for president of the United States. He added that he would like to collaborate with Mark Zuckerberg, the famous creator of Facebook. The rapper and businessman didn't specify under which banner he would like to run, but he persists: "I don't want to run for the simple pleasure of running, but I want to pursue my projects and that gives me enough momentum for people to say to me,'You know what, if you are a candidate, we will support you'," he says.

Akon, a committed personality

The singer is not at his first attempt. Recently, Akon made the headlines with a great initiative: financing solar-powered street lighting in Sierra Leone as part of its projects to electrify the African continent. The artist promised to provide 5,000 street lamps and 2,500 solar-powered traffic lights. The operation is already active in 14 African countries and employs more than 5,000 people.
